Apprenticeships and Internships

Learning to build and restore wooden boats at the East Hill Boat Shop.

An apprenticeship at East Hill Boat Shop is part of the Apprenticeship Program at the Rochester Folk Art Guild, a program designed for young people who are searching for a practical, hands-on approach to learning and living. Working alongside experienced master craftspeople, participants are offered a focus in  Wooden Boat Building & Restoration. Our apprenticeships are awarded to individuals who are accepted after 2 short trial visits and require a minimum commitment of one year. The first visit typically is for 2 or 3 days, after which time a second visit of about 2 weeks is arranged. Our apprenticeships are for a period of one year with promising students offered the option of renewing their apprenticeship annually for up to three years.
