Catspaw Dinghy for sale
The Catspaw Dinghy is the result of designer Joel White’s 10% expansion of Nat Herreshoff’s well known Columbia Dinghy from the 1890’s. The Catspaw is 12
ft 8 inches overall and White added a 63 sq ft sprits’l and centerboard.
The rig can be simply rolled up on the mast and stowed within the boat.
There are two rowing stations and the transom will take a 2 HP outboard
motor. The original design was lap strake planked. White made this one
carvel. She is handsome on the water, capable of carrying four for a
pleasant sail or fishing outing.
The Catspaw is planked with white cedar and fastened with copper and
bronze. The ribs, stem, keel and centerboard are white oak. Her gunwales
are ash and cypress, and white cedar is used for the seats. The
centerboard trunk, rudder, and transom are constructed from Honduras
mahogany, finished bright along with the spruce spares. All other parts are well painted to save on maintenance and she is light
enough for two people to carry her down to the water’s edge.
The Catspaw dinghy is a lovely boat with very sweet lines and ease
in use. She comes with or without a trailer.
The Catspaw Dinghy is an extremely stable and versatile craft, which can be rowed or sailed. Seating up to four people makes this design a natural choice for family or individual outings. It can be used for fishing, sailing, or swimming off of in the middle of the lake. The popularity and ease of use of the Catspaw is why we have chosen this exceptional craft as an East Hill Boat Shop specialty.
To minimize our build time, we usually have one Catspaw on the floor, under construction at all times.
